The Silver Lining | Veronica Mars episode 11: Silence of the Lamb

First, can I just mention how much I love the episode titles for this show?

Second, no Logan?!?!?! No Duncan?!?!?! But I guess it’s okay because we get MAC!!!! I do love Mac. (Did I ever tell you I named a protagonist Mac after this character? She was nothing like her at all, I’m not sure computers are even mentioned in the book except for Facebook, but still.)

So, I cried while watching this episode which totally caught me off guard. It was the moment after Mac has just met her birth mom and goes to leave and her mom yells, "Are you sure you don’t want a sandwich?" I lost it. Clearly, I’m a marshmallow. The baby switch is interesting because it makes you wonder what you would do? Either if you found out you were switched at birth or if you found out the child you raised for 4 years was switched. I am surprised, however, that the families decided to basically go all silent treatment on one another. I would think they would at least try to get together every so often, especially after seeing Mac’s real mom’s reaction to her. Maybe it was Madison’s mom who decided to go incommunicado.

I enjoyed this episode a lot though I remember being really creeped out about it the first time I watched. I especially like that there are so many suspects. (And why hello there, guy on Big Love and Breaking Bad. Nice to see you before I knew who you were.) Usually the one new character in each episode ends up being the suspect.

Despite my love of Logan, I do like Leo. He’s cute and charming and, well, illegal for Veronica. But that’s okay. It was nice to see her regret after using him and then losing him.

I also think this episode did a good job showing how incompetent Sheriff Lamb is compared to Keith Mars. Lamb was ready to call the case closed (and did in fact do that at one point) but Keith knew something wasn’t adding up. Knew that Lamb was overlooking and bullying for a confession just to close the case instead of finding the real killer. Hmmm…does that remind you of anything?!?!?!

I LOVE when Veronica sends target photos to Clarence Weidman. That’s just awesome and badass.

What else? I’m sure I’m forgetting. What did you think?

  1. I cried a little bit when Mac sees her birth mother in the car and touches her hand to the window. At the same time, I’m kind of mad at her for resenting her “adoptive” parents so much when they seem perfectly normal and loving. And yet, she’s a TEEN! Didn’t we all imagine ourselves in different families from time to time? Didn’t we all wonder if we were adopted at one point or another? 🙂 They did a good job with casting the mother and sister, I thought.

Leo, Leo, Leo. I just didn’t buy it when Veronica says that line about falling for him when it’s too late. (Sorry, can’t remember the exact wording.) I could see her being intrigued by him once he’s figured out how she was using him, but I didn’t think she’d lost her heart before that. He is a cutie, though.
